The effects of Mg additions on the Fe-containing intermetallic compounds and heterogeneous nucleation ?-Al were investigated in Al-1.4Fe-0.7Mn- x alloys using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) transmission (TEM). experimental results show that morphology Al 6 (Fe,Mn) eutectic structure was significantly modified from needle-like to plate-like then Chinese Script with increasing concentration. addition composition crystal also investigated. No detected compounds. However, clear interfacial segregation surface particles observed. grains refined increased addition. It is found resulted change major naturally formed oxides 2 O 3 MgAl 4 , eventually changed ?-Al. direct evidence • BE-Al plate-like, script does not partition into particles. segregated surface. primary by Al-1.4Fe-0.7Mn alloys. An orientation relationship defined: 1 ¯ // [1 0]?-Al 0] .
